Uneven floors in 60 year old house?
We purchased a house several months ago and we are starting to do renovations. It is a big two story farm house that was moved onto a brand new cement basement, several years ago. All of the floors in the house are uneven, including the 2nd story floor. (the basement floor however is very nice and even) I am thinking it has been like this for a while and chances are they are all out of whack from being moved. In the basement there are three large wooden beams as well as probably about 12 tele-posts holding up the house, so I know the house isn't going to cave in. Is it worthwhile evening out the floors when they are being re-carpeted etc. or should we look at the beams in the basement? I would like to get a structural engineer to look at the house but my husband thinks it will just be too costly. Any advice?
